Endjineers presenting at SQLBits 2020!
Our team have been busy recording conference talks over the past few weeks, ready to present them at SQLBits from the 29th September to the 2nd October. We are very excited to see what both they, and everyone else presenting at the event, have to share with us!
Ian will be presenting two talks:
In this talk Ian will guide us on how to navigate the huge wealth of options available in Azure; examining files, structured data stores, messaging, data processing, and interactive analysis. He will walk through how to quickly narrow down a small set of candidate technologies, that you can then assess to make the right decisions for meeting your requirements.
And in this talk he will discuss Azure's growing support for notebooks, and how this enables you to perform experimental and exploratory data inspection and analysis at a range of scales. You can work with datasets that fit easily in a single machine's memory, but if you need more firepower, Azure's support for Apache Spark, through either Databricks or Synapse Analytics, enables you to spin up a server farm to process your data in parallel, enabling you to perform complex computations across massive datasets. Not one to be missed!
Carmel will also be presenting two talks:
In this talk Carmel will run through the benefits of using Azure Data Lake, and how the features of both that and Azure Storage can be leveraged to support common data security best practices.
And, in her second talk she will be discussing how to construct a cloud-first architecture based on serverless and data analytics technologies. The talk will focus on our recent work with OceanMind, and how we leveraged a serverless architecture to support their requirements. She will then explore the important principles and challenges in designing this kind of solution. Finally, she will highlight how will see how the architecture we designed through this process not only provides all the benefits of the cloud (reliability, scalability, security), but because of the pay-as-you-go compute model, has a compute cost of less than £10 per month!
And James will be giving a talk on "detecting anomalies in device telemetry - using Azure Synapse Analytics", where we will run through an example of using this exciting technology to perform predictive maintenance and avoid large scale device failures!
